AES Systems
designed, built and installed the process CCTV system in the disposal
facility. The plant operators use the CCTV system to perform all the
chemical processing operations. Working with Washington Demilitarization
Company, AES Systems continues to support the facility. The system provides
the plant operators with the ability to control processes and view operations
remotely, from safely located work stations.
System
The process monitoring system consists of a matrix switching and control
system, utilizing over 30 control stations. AES Systems provided more
than 60 nitrogen purged/pressurized stainless steel cameras built to
the Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program (CSDP) specifications, including
heavy duty pan/tilt units. The Umatilla site is the beneficiary of
the same advancements in video technology which AES Systems has developed
while working with other disposal sites. The unique video issues involved
with the chemical environment were overcome by utilizing the previous
technology, as well as by developing new products. Interior monitoring
of the incinerators and other high temperature environments has required
the need for custom engineered video products, some of which are unique
to the Umatilla site.
AES Solutions
• Incinerator Monitoring - AES Systems engineered
and fabricated cameras capable of direct insertion to the incinerators,
providing the operators with the ability to view the actual incineration
process, and allowing them to ensure complete destruction of the contaminated materials.
• IPS20 Air Cooling – The IPS20 camera has revolutionized
process monitoring. To fill a growing need for the customer, AES Systems
developed an air conditioned model for use in high temperature environments.
The air cooling modification has no moving parts, providing the customer
with a durable and dependable solution which does not require continual
servicing. The Umatilla site was the first to benefit from this advancement.
